Languages by Carl Sanburg highlights the importance of different languages and how much they are apart of who you are. Carl Sanburg was a very wise man and you can see this through this poem. To understand the depth and relevance of what languages mean, you have a great mind. At the time of writing this poem, America was becoming one big melting pot with different people of different cultures coming from all around the world. 

Inspired by walking near Chicago Grant park, he wanted to capture the essence of the natural world and its beauty. He captures a moment when a fog comes over the harbor water, a powerful image given life through a metaphorical cat.
